When the hustle and bustle quiet down: written on the first anniversary of the SPAC of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange
By Chen Xiachang
Drew Bernstein, co-chairman of Marcum Asia, explains the role of the SPAC vehicle in Hong Kong. Long term, Marcum Asia believes that the SPAC has an important role as an alternative path to going public. Innovative deal makers will find the right companies, and the supply of funded SPACs and public-ready private companies will return to balance. In December, there were 450 U.S.-listed SPACs in search of a merger target. As of today, that number is about 320. This data represents an enormous amount of competitive quality deal flow among the companies that are highly motivated, viable public market candidates.
