NEW YORK – Marcum Bernstein & Pinchuk LLP (“MarcumBP”), a top-ranked provider of SEC audit, accounting and consulting services to Chinese companies listed in the U.S. capital markets, announced that Co-Managing Partner Drew Bernstein will be speaking at the 7th Annual Investor Relations Wisdom Summit held in Beijing, Chinaon September 17th and in Hong Kong on September 19th.
The “IR Wisdom Summit,” hosted by Ipreo by IHS Markit, is designed to engage C-suite executives, IR professionals and the investment community in interactive conversations around the latest market trends. Agenda topics will include the latest global political and economic trends, key developments in the financial markets, ESG in investment, global IR best practices and shareholder activism.
Mr. Bernstein will be speaking on the topic of: “Managing Crisis: Short Sellers ‚Äì The Dark Side of Investing” in Beijing and on a panel concerning “The Changing Landscape of Investment” in Hong Kong.
“Chinese companies frequently become the targets of short sellers due to a combination of opaque business models, sub-optimal disclosure practices, and the difficulty that most overseas investors have in performing direct due diligence in the PRC. These investors make highly leveraged bets against the equity of their targets, issue scathing reports, and engage in open warfare in the media to try to drive down stock prices and destroy market confidence,” Mr. Bernstein said.
“While many market participants tend to demonize short sellers, I believe it is important to understand their business models and methods so that companies can realistically assess their vulnerability and respond effectively should a crisis emerge.”
Details of the events are:
- Beijing, Monday September 17th, Conrad Beijing
- Hong Kong, Wednesday September 19th, Eaton Club Central
